How To Recover Photos Lost During Transfer?

Worried that your photos are been lost while transferring and you have no idea how to recover lost photos while moving? Do not worry about this article about how to recover your lost photos while moving. By using Hi5 Photo Recovery Tool

Losing precious photos during a transfer can be a frustrating and disappointing experience. Whether you lost files while moving folders to your computer or from one device to another, there are a few steps you can take to try and recover them.

Firstly, it’s important to stop using the device you were transferring the photos to or from, as continued use can overwrite the deleted files and make them permanently unrecoverable.

Next, check if the photos were actually lost or if they were simply misplaced in another folder or location. Sometimes, files can be accidentally moved or renamed during a transfer, so it’s worth doing a thorough search of your device to see if they can be located.

Reasons Why a Photo Transfer May Fail?

There are several reasons why a photo transfer may fail, resulting in the loss of your precious photos. Some of the common reasons are:

  • Corrupted Files: If the photos you are transferring are corrupted, the transfer may fail or result in incomplete data. Corruption can occur due to various reasons such as a virus, power failure, or improper handling of storage devices.
  • Connectivity Issues: Sometimes, connectivity issues such as weak Wi-Fi signals or cable connections can cause a lost picture while transferring. This is especially true when transferring large files such as high-resolution photos or videos.
  • Insufficient Storage Space: If the device you are transferring the photos to does not have sufficient storage space, the transfer may fail, or only a portion of the photos may be transferred.
  • Incompatible File Formats: Incompatible file formats may also cause transfer failures. For example, if you are trying to transfer a RAW image file to a device that doesn’t support the format, the transfer may fail to recover files lost while moving.
  • Software or Hardware Malfunction: Malfunctioning software or hardware can also cause photo transfer failures. This could be due to a malfunctioning USB port, an outdated driver, or a corrupted transfer software.
  • Human Error: Finally, human error, such as accidentally disconnecting the device during transfer, or accidentally deleting the files, can also result in a transfer failure.

How Do I Recover Photos Lost During Transfer?

Step 2: Look for the folder or file that contained the lost pictures. You can sort the contents of the Recycle Bin by name, date deleted, size, or type by clicking on the appropriate column header.

Step 3: Once you have located the folder or file, right-click on it and select “Restore” to return it to its original location. Alternatively, you can click on the folder or file and then click on the “Restore this item” button in the Recycle Bin toolbar.

Step 4: If you have accidentally emptied the Recycle Bin, you can still retrieve your pictures by using data recovery software. There are many reliable data recovery programs available that can scan your hard drive and recover deleted files, including pictures.

How to Fix When Camera Says ‘Card cannot be accessed’

camera-says-card-cannot-be-accessed

Even though many users prefer mobile phone cameras over regular digital cameras, there are still a few others who prefer digital cameras. The latter argue that the images captured on high-end digital cameras are way more superior than the ones captured on mobiles, hence the preference.

Whether you use a camera or a mobile phone camera, one thing is certain. They can both run into issues at some point. In this article, we discuss an error encountered in cameras that reads:

‘Card cannot be accessed. Reinsert/change card or format card with camera’.

Upon encountering this error, you may find that you cannot access any of the data on the card. But this situation can be difficult to handle if you have important data stored on the card. So, without further delay, let’s begin with the solutions to resolve the error.

Solution 1: Try to access the SD card from the PC

This solution will help you identify where the issue is coming from. First, connect the SD card to the computer using a card reader. If you can access the card and its data from the computer, then you know the problem is not with the card.

However, if you cannot access data on the card even after connecting it to the computer, then it is possibly an issue with the SD card.

Solution 2: Recover data and format the SD card

If the SD card doesn’t work on a computer like explained in Solution 1, it is likely that there is a problem with the card you are using. It could have gotten corrupted due to various factors such as human errors like pulling out the SD card when in use or due to using the same SD card on multiple cameras. Corruption can also be a result of virus attacks or formatting the card on a computer. But, no matter the reason for corruption, data on those cards can be recovered easily using a tool called Hi5 data recovery software.

Hi5 data recovery software is designed to recover all kinds of data like photos, videos, audio files of various formats like JPEG, JPG, PNG, PSD, GIF, TIFF, RAW images, MP3, MP4 from SD cards. Another advantage of using this tool is that the recovered data will be in the same exact manner as it was originally.

It can not only recover data from corrupt SD cards, but also from inaccessible or cards that are not detected. Sometimes, you may receive the error ‘SD card is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?’ You can use Hi5 Software even in these situations to recover data from SD card without formatting.

Format SD card

After you have recovered data from the SD card using Hi5 Software, you can proceed with formatting it to resolve the error ‘Card cannot be accessed’. What to Do When Camera is not Detected by the GoPro App for Desktop?

To transfer files from GoPro cameras to your system, users normally make use of the GoPro desktop app. Under normal circumstances, this works perfectly, all you need is a USB cable to connect the camera and you can easily transfer files. But in some cases, you may face issues with this app as well.

Camera not appearing in the GoPro app, error messages after connecting the camera, camera showing ‘No files to import’ despite data on it are some of the most common types of issues encountered.

Go-pro-camera

In this write-up, we discuss the ‘Camera not appearing in the GoPro app’ error and provide solutions for the same. Just follow the instructions below and you should be able to get your GoPro camera recognized by the app to transfer files.

Troubleshooting guide to resolve ‘Camera is not detected by the GoPro desktop app’

  1. As a first step, make sure you are using a GoPro USB cable to connect the camera to your system. Other USB cables may not work as expected. If the issue persists even with the GoPro USB cable, connect the camera to another USB port and check if it works.
  2. Next, remove the micro SD card temporarily and try reconnecting it again to your computer. Sometimes something as simple as this may do the trick.
  3. You can also connect the camera to another computer and check if it helps resolve the error. This will help you identify if there are issues with your computer.
  4. As a next troubleshooting step, update your Windows and restart the system. This trick has helped many users resolve the error.
  5. In some cases, you may also see an error message like ‘USB device not recognized. One of the USB devices connected to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it’.

usb-device-not-recognized

This error indicates that the USB driver has gotten corrupted. To solve this problem, you will need to update or reinstall USB controllers. Here’s how to do so in Windows 10.

  • Click on the Start menu and type ‘Device Manager’ in the Search bar. Then select Device Manager to open the window

open-device-manager

  • Click on the drop down beside Universal Serial Bus Controllers to expand the section

expand-universal-serial-bus-controllers

  • Right click on each of the devices in that section and click Uninstall

Once you have uninstalled all USB devices, restart your computer. When the computer starts, all the USB controllers will be reinstalled automatically.

  1. Go Pro App for desktop is designed to work only when the name of the folder in the SD card is ‘100GOPRO’. If you happen to change the name of this folder to anything other than 100OPRO, it won’t work.

If none of these methods work and you still have trouble getting the GoPro device recognized by your computer, there is a possibility that the SD card is corrupt. In that case, you can use Hi5 Software and recover your files from the corrupt SD card. This tool is designed to recover videos from Go Pro cameras and multiple other cameras like Sony, Samsung, Nikon, Canon, etc.

Once data is recovered from the GoPro’s SD card, you can go ahead and format the card to resolve corruption issues.

File Formats and Codecs You Need to Know When Working with Videos

Understanding codecs and containers

A container is what is often referred to as a file format. This container file can have different types of codecs within it and is represented by a file extension. Example containers are .AVI, .MOV, .MPG, .MKV etc.

On the other hand, codecs are algorithms that compress your audio and video data to make the resulting file lighter so it occupies comparatively less storage and can be transmitted faster. There are hundreds of codecs available, each of them supported by a particular container format. Discussed below are some of the most common containers used today.

AVI: AVI, short for Audio Video Interleave is a container format developed by Microsoft. AVI files can comprise of a variety of different codecs and the most common ones used are DivX and XviD. These files are typically less compressed than other formats and hence offer a better quality. They can be played on Windows Media Player, VLC Player, ALLPlayer and DivX player to name a few.

MOV: MOV is a container developed by Apple for their native QuickTime Player. Although it was originally designed to support only Mac systems, it is now compatible with Windows as well. Windows Media Player, VLC player, Quick Time Player are some of the media players that support MOV files. And MOV files typically use the MPEG-4 codecs for compression.

MP4: Whenever you download a file from the internet or use a DVD ripping tool, you will find the video in MP4 format. MP4 contains the MPEG-4 codec and is one of the most versatile formats supported by many video programs and devices.

WMV: WMV stands for Windows Media Video. It is basically a container developed by Microsoft that contains codecs developed by Microsoft. WMV can be played on Windows Media Player, Quick Time Pro, Cyberlink PowerDVD etc.

Common issues when playing video files

Now that we’ve covered the basics of codecs and containers, let us understand some common issues you can encounter while playing video files. Errors like ‘Cannot play the file’, ‘The codec used in the file is not supported by the media player’ are some of the most common ones. These problems usually occur when the codec used in the file is not supported by the media player you’re trying to play the video file with. In order to resolve this problem, download the necessary codec packs available and try to play the file.

If this doesn’t help and you still have issues playing, it could be probably because of corruption in the video file. In such cases, the file can be repaired using tools like Hi5 MOV repair software. It can repair all kinds of issues in MOV and MP4 files. It can be used in cases when the file is infected by virus or damage to the video file is caused by converting file formats or playing the file using incompatible media players.

The software works with all versions of Mac and Windows OS. Just download a trial and check out the software for free!

My Camera Says Memory Card is Full but Nothing on It

While using an SD card, you may encounter messages such as ‘Card is full’ despite having space on it. Or even when you have deleted data off of the card. This may sound bizarre but can happen occasionally due to various reasons. Reasons could be corruption in the card or if the contents are still on the card and not permanently deleted.

In this article, we’ll explain solutions to resolve the issue and explain recovery options in case files on the card become invisible.

Solution 1: Empty the recycle bin/Trash

You may receive ‘Card is full’ error even after deleting contents of the card. In this case, only the reference to the file will be deleted, not the actual files. To resolve the issue, connect your card to the system and empty your Trash or Recycle bin depending on if you’re using Mac or a PC.

If after trying this solution, if the error persists, proceed to solution 2.

Solution 2: Show hidden files

Your SD card may show ‘full’ if the files and folders inside it are hidden. To show all hidden files,

  1. Click on Start menu and in the Search bar, type Control Panel
  2. Go to Appearance & personalization
  3. Select Folder Options and then select View tab
  4. Under View tab, select Show Hidden files & folders and click Apply

This will show all hidden files and folders on your SD card. Now you should be able to see the space used and free space available on the SD card.

Solution 3: Format your card

If you are receiving a card is a full error, it could mean that the card is corrupted. In this case, it is recommended you back up data from the card and format it. And please note that the formatting has to be done on the camera and not on your computer.

Each camera has a specific way of formatting; hence SD cards need to be formatted only in the camera it’s going to be used with.

What if you have data on the card and it’s invisible?

In case you are receiving the ‘Card is full’ error and are unable to see the files on the card, try connecting the card to your PC and look for files.

If you can’t find files even on the computer and you need to recover data, its data recovery software to your rescue. Hi5 Software provides a data recovery solution for all your needs. The tool is great for recovery from corrupt SD cards. All media files such as photos, videos, and audio can be recovered.

All kinds of memory cards such as SD, CF, XD, micro and mini SD’s are supported. The software supports all versions of Windows OS including Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7 etc.

Sometimes, you may be presented with an error ‘SD card needs formatting’. For more information, refer how to recover data from corrupted memory card without formatting.

Note: It is best to stop using the card if you intend to recover data from it. This is because the further use of the SD card results in file overwrites and may cause permanent deletion, in which case it is not possible to recover data.

Killer Tips to Improve Photoshop Performance by 200% (CS5, CS6, CC)

Adobe Photoshop is one of the most popular image editing applications that is used to create and manipulate images. It has the wide variety of uses including creating logos, touching up your pictures, tone and color corrections, creating gifs, small videos, charts, posters, infographics and so on.

Given its several uses, it is critical to ensure Photoshop is performing at a high level at all times.

Let us look at some ways you can increase the performance levels in PhotoShop

  • Have enough and more memory space: Photoshop uses RAM to stuff the process it is working on. When RAM runs out, it uses scratch disks to distribute the workload. The application uses any free space that is available on hard drives.
  • Add scratch disks: The more memory there is, Photoshop performs better. Scratch disks are external or internal devices with free memory. By default, Photoshop uses the memory drive, where your Operating system is installed. You can change your scratch disk settings in Preferences -> Scratch disks.
  • Click on Edit -> Preferences -> Scratch Disks.
  • To enable or disable a scratch disk, you can select or deselect the Active checkbox. Click arrow buttons to change scratch disk order and click Ok.
  • Restart Photoshop for changes to take effect.
  • Set performance-related preferences: You can go to Preferences -> Performance to make optimum use of system’s resources like memory, cache, graphics processor, display and so on.
  • You can increase RAM allocated to Photoshop by changing the value in Let Photoshop Use You can also adjust the Memory Usage slider.
  • Restart Photoshop for changes to take place.

To find the ideal RAM allocation for your system, change it in 5% increments and check the performance in the Efficiency indicator.

  • Reduce history states: Scratch disk space can be saved by reducing the number of history states Photoshop saves in the history panel. The amount of space that is saved again depends on the number of pixels an operation changes. For instance, applying an effect to an adjustment layer takes little space compared to applying an effect to an entire image.
  • To reduce the number of history states, go to Performance preference dialog box, select History & Cache > History States.
    • Stop pre-loading of fonts: When you open your Photoshop application, all fonts that are installed or pre-loaded into RAM also opens, which is not necessary.

Select Edit -> Preferences -> Type -> Type Options -> Font Preview Size.

    • Monitor Efficiency Indicator: Click on the pop-up menu at the bottom of the image window and choose Efficiency from that pop-up menu.

If the value of the indicator shows below 100%, all the RAM has been allocated to Photoshop and is now using the scratch disk, which reduces performance.

If the efficiency is less than 90%, allocate more RAM to Photoshop in Performance preferences window or add more RAM to your system.

    • Do not exceed file size limits: Handling large files can also lead to performance issues. The maximum file size that Photoshop can handle is 300,000 x 300, 000 pixels, with the exception of PDF files, limited to 30,000 x 30,000 pixels and 200 x 200 inches. Here are some file size limits for Photoshop – PSD – 2 GB; TIFF – 4 GB; PSB files – 4 exabytes; PDF – 10 GB (pages limited to the max size of 200 inches).
    • Close Unnecessary Windows: If there are too many open images, Photoshop runs slowly and shows “Out of RAM” error message.
    • Uncheck export clipboard: If you are not using any copied data except Photoshop, you can uncheck this option. It leads to data leakage once you copy data, but do not paste it somewhere.

Select Edit -> Preferences -> General -> Deselect Export Clipboard.

    • Change your file compatibility options: If you do not need your PSD or PSB files in previous versions of Photoshop or in applications that don’t support layers, turn off the file compatibility feature to save your documents faster.
    • In Preferences -> File Handling, for 16-bit and 32-bit PSD, PSB documents, choose to Disable compression of PSD and PSB files.
    • In Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility menu, select Ask or Never.
    • Reduce image resolution: Photoshop requires more memory and space to store, process and display large resolution images. This can slow performance, use additional scratch disk space.

To reduce image resolution, go to Image -> Image Size.

In the Image Size dialog box, ensure that Resample option is selected. Now enter a new value for the Dimensions width or height (entering a value for one changes both).

Easy Tips to Keep Memory Card Healthy

The irony is that most of the people look at memory card as not more than a piece of metal or plastic. But they leave the very important insights of the card. From flash memory to a controller, there are a lot of things to understand! And it is the quality of the memory and controller often responsible for the speed and well-being of your card. So there will be a need to take care of your memory card by considering some Dos and Don’ts.

Here we go…

#1 Deleting images from memory card on the camera is not a good idea!

It means, do not erase photos or videos on camera keeping the memory card inserted into it. We can see most of the people doing it, but it is a great way to mess up with File Allocation Table. You shouldn’t do it.

However, memory cards are so cheap nowadays. You can switch to the new one once the card is filled up. There is no need to delete files to make space.

#2 It is suggested not to format the memory card on computer, but do in your camera itself

You’ll have to format the card on the camera, and you should do it on the camera you are shooting with. Also, it is a very bad idea to get the card out of the camera of one model and use that card into another without formatting. Shooting on Canon camera, pulling out the card and start using it with Nikon is not at all a healthy way of managing the memory card. Cards need to be formatted in a dedicated way and each company will do it in their own way.

#3 Cleaning a card before each shoot is a good concept

Once you transfer all the images and videos from your card to computer or some other place, it is recommended to format the card before you use it for another shoot. A clean memory card will work better!

#4 Never fill the card completely

Even though memory cards have a great working mechanism, they may suffer from performance issues if you fill it with lots of loads. Just fill them up to 90% and start using another one. And it is a good idea to use large memory cards so that you can take more and more pictures and don’t worry about the space so soon.

#5 Always choose a good card reader

Most of the memory card surveys say that cards get damaged in a reader than in a camera. So if your card and its data is precious to you, invest on some noble card readers.

#6 Don’t try to pull out the card during the data transfer process

Chances are, your photos or some other media files may go missing if you interrupt the process of data transfer from the card or to the card. Also, it is better to wait for an extra couple of seconds after the data has been transferred. Don’t interrupt immediately!

#7 If you are smart enough and have two card slots, then write the images to both the cards

By doing so, you can save files when something wrong say corruption happens to one card. You can get the files off the other card.

#8 Buy memory cards of popular brands

Nothing is more unprofessional than using an expensive camera with a creepy memory card that has no name! If you want your data to be safe and secure, then spending few dollars more to bet a good product is not a big deal.

Remember you are handing your precious images to the card. So think and act!

Apart from these, one more important thing that should strike your mind after you purchase the card is testing its writing or transfer capacity. Meaning, how fast the card is!

You can determine the transferring speed by considering two memory cards (to compare) and a high-definition video. Transfer the HD video and record the time of transfer of each memory card.

“If at all you have not backed up your HD video file and something went wrong during the above test, then there may be chances of video file loss. But no worries, the lost HD video can be easily recovered using Hi5 Photo Recovery Software”

Well, the information on this article could save you from disasters. By now, hope you have a better understanding of what to do and for which to say no about memory cards.
